Britain’s GCHQ focuses on bitcoin
The British spy agency, GCHQ, has started closely monitoring bitcoin due to the rapid growth of its exchange rate within several months.
GCHQ (Government Communications Headquarters) is the UK center conducting signals intelligence and providing information protection in official bodies and army.
Chris Ensor, the deputy director for GCHQ’s National Cyber Security Centre division, said that British authorities asked him to investigate potential risks related to BTC: “We are interested in anything that could affect the country, so Bitcoin is a major thing now.”
The center is thoroughly exploring cryptocurrencies, discovering the concept of a digital asset, blockchain technology capacity and possible threats for the governmental financial system.
GCHQ is closely cooperating with Her Majesty's Treasury that has recently announced the intention to regulate the cryptocurrency market.
